Responsible for leading the South Europe Cluster business units financial Accounting, Reporting and Control functions to ensure the financial transactions, policies, systems and procedures meet the units short and long-term business objectives in compliance with Mars accounting policies, US GAAP, and local/regulatory requirements, production of profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow statements, and managing and developing a team of accounting specialists and the payroll associate.

Responsible for creating and maintaining an internal control environment that complies with Mars Policies, practices, and managing all internal and external audits.

What are we looking for?

  • B.A. /B.S. with Accounting or similar concentration; C.P.A. or equivalent experience/ certification preferred.
  • Experience with financial statement reporting obligations, including an understanding of GAAP and local regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
  • Prior experience, preferably in multinational FMCG company will be a plus.
  • Prior experience in team management.
  • Fluency in English required. Spanish and / or Italian will be a plus.
  • Position based in Milan / Madrid. Some business travel could be required.

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Ensure an efficient and effective period close process that delivers accurate information, with maintenance of appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Analyse financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner. Clearly communicate periodic, quarterly, and annual financial information. Identify, assess, and communicate risks and opportunities affecting the financial statements and forecasts.
  • Support the year-end or tax audit processes with external auditors and local tax authorities, where applicable, including timely resolution of all findings and comments.
  • Key contributor to the Governance and Controls unit agenda, striving to comply with the Internal Controls requirements, including the documentation oof significant processes, and managing audits with Mars internal audit team when needed. 
  • Serve as a liaison with specialist teams (e.g. ICTC – Tax and Treasury Team) and ensure appropriate unit compliance with all related requirements.
  • Responsible for payroll accounting and payments due to confidentiality reasons.
  • Identification and timely resolution of complex accounting matters.
  • Proactively identify new ways of working, tools and opportunities, leading to efficiency increase in the business. Ensuring that the ERP is up to date from the Financial and unit consistency point of view.
  • Manage transformation / digitalization projects related to the function scope.
  • GLM (Great Line Manager) capabilites such as manage and develop highly engaged associates by leading efforts that continuously drive associate and team engagement.
