Trade Compliance Manager (Canada & North America)
Royal Canin’s Trade Compliance team finds opportunity & minimizes risk by guiding business decisions based on insight into customs rules and regulations and provide appropriate governance structure to other teams within the business.
The Trade Compliance Manager reports within the legal organization in Royal Canin North America. He/she also belongs a community Royal Canin associates within supply chain and public affairs promoting best practice sharing, establishing and auditing standards, processes, systems, and the consistent application of Mars Petcare and Royal Canin policies. The objective of the incumbent is to ensure trade compliance of ingredients, products, processes. Incumbent is also responsible for ensuring appropriate l engagement from Royal Canin with critical external stakeholders that include but is not limited to Petfood Trade Association and central customs authorities in North America.
What are we looking for?
- 3-5 years of experience in a public policy or Trade related field with a preference for an experience in pet food.
- Bachelors/Master in a technical area, such as business, International Affairs, food science, veterinary medicine, or international trade/economics.
- Customs Broker License or Certified Customs Specialist preferred.
- Excellent understanding and working knowledge of customs regimes in North America including but not limited to classification, valuation, free trade agreement qualification, logistics documentation, and broker process.
What will be your key responsibilities?
- Provide an interpretation at a detailed level of new regulations in North America as well as the implications to Royal Canin’s active trade lanes and sourcing locations.
- Develop and measure KPIs for trade compliance within Royal Canin’s import/export activity.
- Partner with Regulatory Affairs teams to ensure end-to-end compliance of international transactions.
- Partner with the Mars Trade Compliance Team to ensure consistency of approach and community of practice.
- Monitor day-day cross border activity into and out of North America for compliance risk.
- Represent Royal Canin interests in Trade Associations on Customs topics
- Develop and deploy with savings opportunities related to duties, tariffs and fees in cross-border transactions.
- Set and manage the process for Import Licenses administration in close collaboration with import countries RC teams.
- Provide compliance oversight for factories and logistics for creation and certification of customs relevant documentation.
- Identify new items requiring Free Trade Agreement qualification and facilitate communication with internal partners for qualification analysis.
- Analyzes, audit, and evaluates internal and external business partners including operations, procedures, and documentations to verify and ensure compliance regulatory guidelines for cross-border trade.
- Manage Local Level Broker relationship ad support day-to-day activities such as responding to shipment delays from customs brokers.
- Lead in the invoice management and purchase order process for third party vendors, including brokers and consultants, through reviewing and approving costs incurred.
- Partnering with Finance department and external consultants to review and execute cost savings opportunities for cross-border charges incurred.
- Reporting duty related analytics, identifying and partnering on cost saving initiatives.
